Building Performance

W | A Associates has the knowledge and expertise to help clients build greener, more efficient, and more sustainable buildings with the goal of meeting or exceeding the new California Green Building Standards Code in effect since January 2011.

What is a Green Building?

A green building is one that focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use energy, water, and materials while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building's lifecycle, through better siting, design, construction and operational practices.

W | A Associates' Expertise & Experience

As remedial and building envelope and waterproofing experts, we are in a unique position to design or retrofit high-performing buildings that require far less energy to operate than conventional buildings do. We can assist clients interested in building greener by drawing on principles of many of the prevailing building design philosophies such as the Whole House or Whole Building approach, Zero-Net Energy, PassiveHouse, and solar house design. Our knowledgeable staff can assist clients with new designs, remodels or remedial repairs that balance a variety of factors - such as sustainability, efficiency, cost, performance desired, use requirements, code requirements, and occupant needs in order to arrive at the most effective solution.

California's Green Code

The California Building Standards Commission unanimously adopted the first-in-the-nation mandatory Green Building Standards Code (CALGREEN) requiring all new buildings in the state to be more energy efficient and constructed in a way that is environmentally responsible. Taking effect on January 1, 2011, these comprehensive regulations will achieve major reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption and water use to create a greener California.
