Photographic Forensic Tools

W | A Associates employs several cutting-edge photographic tools to help us on our projects and during investigation. No matter how difficult or out of the way a building or assembly is, we have the appropriate photographic tool for the job. Whether for trial exhibits, photo-montage, field observation reports, construction administration, thermography, documentation of pre-existing conditions, or other forms of illustrations, our experts are equipped with the some of the best available tools and technology available to investigate and record.

Telephoto
Lens
Our powerful telephoto lens allows us to take detailed shots when getting close a building or the building site isn't easily accessible. With it we were able to snap images of a failing cliff from 1.18 miles across the Richardson Bay and document the conditions at the project site.

Borescope

W | A Associates is able to perform non-destructive condition surveys using a borescope (a device similar to what doctors use to see inside the human body) that allows us to see and take pictures inside of walls and other hard-to-reach building components with minimal damage. W | A Associates experts can pinpoint anomalies on building materials, which may translate to underlying construction deficiencies or deteriorated building components.

The Olympus Series 5 Swing Prism borescopes feature an adjustable prism in the objective end of the instrument that allows the operator to remotely control the direction of view, allowing the area to be ’scanned.' The borescope's  high resolution lens provides a clear image of objects as close as 3/4 inch and over one foot away while providing a wide field of view. A powerful lamp illuminates dark crevices on demand with the push of a button conveniently located on the handle.

Nikkor Wide angle Lens

This wide-angle lens allows us to take great project photos, and can be an absolute requirement when trying to take photos of interior spaces, or building elevations in closely packed sites. It's an architect's best friend, and on of the highest-rated architectural lenses on the market.

The two project photos below were taken using this lens.

Sony Handycam HDR-SR1 AVC 30GB Hard Drive Camcorder

Documentation of pre-existing conditions can be a tedious task when taken photo by photo. In some cases, such as when performing general building assessments, video technology is the most appropriate and efficient solution. With appropriate software, we are able to review videos frame by frame, and produce still photographs as needed.

Infrared Camera

W | A Associates is able to perform non-destructive condition surveys using digital infrared (IR) thermography. Infrared thermography allows W | A Associates to pinpoint thermal anomalies on building materials, which may translate to underlying construction deficiencies or deteriorated building components.
